Ranking Every Master Story

Look, I have provided further proof that if you include the words 'Master' and 'ranking' in the same sentence then some people just automatically say 'Roger Delgado, the original and best' without parsing the other words.

The Tenth Doctor is a dick and other stories

I've written a couple more things for Den of Geek, one is an almost certainly wrong speculation piece about Series 13 and the other is about the Tenth Doctor being a dick (apologies for the headline, that's my fault and should have got it changed).

Ranking Every Cybermen Story

I ranked all the TV Cybermen stories for Den of Geek.

Me trying to follow conversations at parties.

In the article I propose the radical concept of 'Well, they're endearingly crap and kinda camp aren't they?' and suggest that the best bits of Cybermen stories are rarely actually the Cybermen.

Ranking Every Dalek Story

This article was written for Den of Geek.

I think it's clickbait, personally, and I'm fine with that. Ranking articles or lists put off a fair few readers, and I know that I'm making valid points about each story. I'm aware that these points are potentially controversial (not liking the 'Have I the right?' scene puts me firmly in the minority), but I agree with these tweets that for a variety of reasons it's harder to be controversial within Fandom.

Firstly it's that myriad opinions exist within fandom now, so the potential for controversy is lessened by the lack of a prevailing wisdom. Wisdoms prevail in all directions, some of it even wise. There's so much writing about Doctor Who around now that even The King's Demons defenders have logged on. And maybe more people are actually getting slightly more savvy about not reading stuff they know they'll dislike, or have mastered the whole 'subjective/objective' thing. Or possibly the hellish descent into fascism has put disagreeing with someone about Pertwee Dalek stories into perspective.

The only way to be controversial now is if you say a story is racist, in which case you receive the standard 'How dare you say I'm racist' comments from people who like those stories and have a surplus of red flags.

Anyway, please read my article ranking Dalek stories. I already disagree with my own ranking.

If I wrote it now, I'd change 'Dalek/Bad Wolf/Parting of the Ways' to 'Series 1'.

Ranking Every Single Companion Departure

Den of Geek asked me to write an article ranking every single companion departure ever, so I did. It sounded fun, such a gratuitous piece of clickbait but simultaneously something that could show a different perspective on the history of Doctor Who.

And so it proved. I simply listed every companion who left (which included characters who filled that role for one or two episodes on the basis that it would be interesting to write about them too, even if they only filled the role for a limited time) and wrote about their exit, then ranked them afterwards. Don't get too distracted by the rankings, even though they're right.
